This includes the design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance of a 30-mile channel, road and bridge crossings, aqueducts and other drainage structures.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for the design and construction of the Southern Embankment and Associated Infrastructure for the FM Area Diversion. This includes the 20-mile embankment, three large water control structures, environmental mitigation projects and road projects. These features will be designed and constructed in phases.

The Metro Flood Diversion Authority, along with its member entities, is responsible for a variety of other projects related to the FM Area Diversion. This may include removing structures, constructing levees and stormwater lift stations within the City of Fargo or City of Moorhead, and working on rural road improvements.

The MFDA serves as the entity responsible for delivering the FM Area Diversion, the first of its kind for flood management projects in North America. Find out more about us and our governance structure, then browse the current job openings below.
• Permit Coordination/Permit Management: Coordinate with MFDA, state and federal agencies, and local governing entities to track permit conditions and schedules, develop reports and manage progress, and communicates on permit related issues. Will provide support to the MFDA Director of Engineering when necessary.
• Track all existing MOU’s and aid internal communications on MFDA’s roles and responsibilities outlined within all MOU’s, as well as member entity responsibilities.
• Assist in administering and managing the Rural Impact Mitigation Program
• Work with the MFDA to ensure proper review and approval of Rural Impact Mitigation Program loans once the board has approved it to the time it has been fully repaid. This will include tracking necessary documentation with land agents, property owners, various board approvals, and escrow companies.
• When needed, aid in field efforts to observe, document, and monitor vegetation and mitigation site conditions
• Provide support in drafting budget preparation and submitting finance reporting
• Support drafting, design, proofing, and layout of reports, presentations, and similar materials
• Ensure compliance with MFDA policies and procedures, including external requirements
