Round table and press conference to mark federal funding appropriation for the FM Area Diversion

FARGO, ND (January 20, 2022) – Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Col. Karl Jansen, Commissioner Chad Peterson, chairman of the Metro Flood Diversion Board of Authority, Joel Paulsen, Metro Flood Diversion Authority (MFDA) executive director, and other area leaders on Friday to discuss this week’s announcement of $437 million in funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ work on the FM Area Diversion.

The award, which follows the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, will help the FM Area Diversion deliver permanent, reliable flood protection to the region by the scheduled completion date in 2027.

With this appropriation, the Corps will be able to complete all remaining portions of the federal work, to include the Red River Structure, remaining Southern Embankment reaches, and vital environmental mitigation.
