Kris Bakkegard became the first Metro Flood Diversion Authority director of engineering in July 2020.
Previously, he worked for 25 years with KLJ as a civil engineer, division leader, and engineering group manager. In the latter role, he managed a production group with seven departments comprised of about 200 staff members. His experience with KLJ spanned design and project management for bridges, urban and rural roadways, and flood control projects as well as involvement with surveying, environmental work, right-of-way work, and construction.
He’s a military veteran, having served 8 years as a combat engineer in the North Dakota Army National Guard.
Bakkegard grew up in Valley City, North Dakota, and received a Civil Engineering degree from North Dakota State University. He resides with his family in Fargo, North Dakota.
