North Dakota legislators are considering funding up to $102 million for flood protection efforts in Cass County.
Members of the Diversion Authority and other Cass County and Fargo officials traveled to Bismarck, ND on February 12 to discuss ongoing efforts to build flood protection for more than 92% of Cass County residents. Authority members held a legislative social in which they provided lawmakers with information on plans to protect one in five North Dakotans by constructing the Diversion Project.
House Bill 1020 is currently being considered by the House Appropriations- Education and Environment Division. A hearing on the bill was held on January 16. The bill will be referred to full committee and voted on by the full House before the end of February.
The funding for flood protection efforts in Cass County is contained in HB 1020, the State Water Commission’s budget bill. This money would be in addition to the $75 million appropriated over the last two biennia.
