Board Chair Darrell Vanyo and Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney presented an update on the progress to provide permanent flood protection to the area through the FM Area Diversion Project. They also presented a three minute whiteboard video outlining how the project will be financed and constructed.
“We hope to use tools like this video in the future to help everyone fully understand how the project is financed, how it will be constructed, and the benefit it will have for our state and region,” Vanyo said.
“With the continued support of the Governor and state legislators, including their commitment of $66 million in the next legislative session, we have developed a comprehensive financial plan to fund permanent flood protection for Fargo and Moorhead,” Mahoney stated. “We all know that sandbagging is not a sustainable way to defend our community and this funding strategy puts us on a path to finally attain real protection.”
