Diversion Authority Releases 30-minute Documentary about Flooding Impacts and Living with the Red River

The Diversion Board of Authority today released a 30-minute video presentation about flooding, the impacts on the community and various perspectives on the FM Area Diversion Project.

“Given the fact that the Red is about to recede below flood stage and people are physical distancing, we thought this video presentation would be something our community could watch together, remembering shared experiences in previous spring flood events,” FM Area Diversion Project Executive Director Joel Paulsen said. “Like COVID-19, floods disrupted daily life and left lasting impressions on our families, school children and infrastructure.”

“I remember during the flood of 2009 when I was helping monitor some of the emergency levees protecting the City,” he added. “Roads were blocked off, schools were closed, and businesses were not open. Protecting people from floodwaters with emergency measures is stressful and something I hope we never have to solely rely upon again.”

The video is being hosted on the City of Fargo’s Facebook page and at YouTube.com/FMDiversion.

The City of Fargo is also showing the presentation on TV Fargo 56, channel 56 on Midco and Sparklight. This channel can also be seen online at TVFargo.com.  The video will be shown at
