The Diversion Board of Authority took action today to preserve its rights for further permit consideration by requesting a formal contested case hearing. This formal process will allow additional time during which the Authority can work with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) to establish a factual basis for permit determinations. In addition, the Authority took action to endorse a proposal to establish a Working Group with the MDNR to develop permanent flood protection for the Fargo-Moorhead area.
“I am hopeful that the working group will lead to a better common understanding of the challenges associated with providing the permanent protection we need in Moorhead and our neighbors need in Fargo and Cass County,” said Del Rae Williams, Mayor of the City of Moorhead.
“With the Corps of Engineers’ pending construction efforts, it is essential we continue to work with all parties to implement this project in a fair and cost-effective manner,” said Tim Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo. “I look forward to continued dialogue with state agencies in Minnesota and North Dakota as we work to provide safety from flooding to the property, people, and jobs located in the Fargo-Moorhead metro area.”
