A contract was awarded to the joint venture of Bergmann Associates, Inc.; Hanson Professional Services, Inc.; and HDR Engineering, Inc. on August 31, 2012, to provide engineering analysis of alternatives for and to construct a physical model of the Maple River Aqueduct feature of the Fargo-Moorhead Metro project. This model will be used to develop and refine hydraulic design criteria for the aqueduct feature.
The first task will be to identify alternative designs for the aqueduct. A value-based design charette will then be held to refine these potential alternatives. Next, a physical model will be constructed to test the top three alternatives.
In addition to testing the hydraulic characteristics of the aqueduct and spillway, the model will also be used to simulate ice conditions.
The final report for this model will be completed in October 2013.
